Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Andrew Atherton and Mr Wu Zhaosheng, Manchester Education Consul, introduced the 'Dragons' Den' inspired competition and welcomed participants.

After a close contest, the winning teams were Sellplex (a new e-commerce platform), Boxabio (a natural medicine product), Biobean (biofuels) and MediImage (health software).

Six judges from industry and academia, chaired by Professor David Brown, Director of the LCMC, and including Dr Allan Discua Cruz from the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development, evaluated the proposals and selected the teams to go through to the grand-final. This will take place in London in July and will be hosted by the Bank of China.

The China-UK competition is sponsored by Lancaster University, University of East Anglia, University of East London, UCL and China Innovation Development Association. It is the longest established university entrepreneurship competition focused on China.
